On the way from Ixtapa we did have a few issues. First, a small rock decided to jump up off the road and give our windshield a kiss. Of course it had to be right in the drivers view. So now we need to find a fixit for the ½ inch crack. We had an oops with the toilet seat. Somehow, um, broke the hinge on the lid. Don’t ask, and NO we have not gained that much weight. Also while trying to charge a laptop from the inverter through the only inside cigarette lighter, we fried it. We finally found a replacement but too lazy to fix it because there’s too much to see and do. And to top it all off, we both got stuffy noses. Maybe it’s because we went from sea level to 6000 feet.
So we settled in to a hotel/RV park in Uruapan. I am not sure why they say RV Park because it was a far cry from one. We had shore power but that’s about it. It was nice though and would be a good weekend stay for those who need a place to crash. Pie de la Sierra was the name of the place.
As soon as we arrived the fun began. We entered town with hopes to just drive right up to this park for the night, but what really happened was we needed to hire a taxi to follow after getting lost for about an hour. We drove around what seemed to be the ghetto that had no exit. We managed to get out of a few almost high centered situations where the roads were too steep for the Buddha to make the grade. We also found out that we think we were the only “white folk” in a city of 250,000.
Ok, back to Uruapan. There is not much too really do or see in the city. The main attraction is the National Park. The second is well, the Narrowest House in the World. After those two things the rest of the attractions are out of town which we just did not feel we needed to see. The park was amazing. Clean, Clean, Clean! Not much too really say about it because it’s a “must see” thing. The trout farm was located within the park but no fishing allowed! Bummer! You could however purchase a kilo of rainbow trout for 40 pesos. We didn’t do that because there are many places in town to purchase it and restaurants to eat it at.
That was Uruapan, our next stop is Patzcuaro where we are now, but have not seen or done anything yet. That will be our next post which should be quite nice because this place is at 7000 feet and awesome. Tell we finish here, adios.
Ryan and Jo-Ann are "ex-cruisers" who decided to get off a boat and on to land. With a 27 foot RV and a 1978 Jeep CJ5. The RV Adventure that only happens in books. From Mazatlan, Mexico to...???, we hope to see and experience what only a few people have ever seen or done.
